A person who laced candy with sedative and provided them to minors at a youth camp in the region has admitted sexual crimes against two boys aged nine and ten years old.
The defendant was taken into custody after eight youngsters and an older person fell ill at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.
Yet, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old child.
The accused was held in detention prior to a subsequent court date on late November.
'Sweet game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.
She said his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a youth camp which he operated.
Ruben played a "candy game" with the children, the prosecutor explained, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".
She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the boys "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She stated the defendant had been able to explain this for many years as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "Recently" his stepson had worries about the situation, for good reason.
"They decided to examine in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC said materials including baby oil, petroleum jelly and injection devices were located, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She stated the man proceeded to conduct the "treat game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"Authorities" had not gone out by that point," she added.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
The prosecutor stated the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson contacted the law enforcement a second time.
She stated the man then engaged in the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
